About Dr. Bailey

Dr. Tyson Bailey is a Seattle native who specializes in evaluating individuals who are experiencing distressing reactions to traumatic events. He believes it is important to consider the effects of marginalization and discrimination on current functioning, considering all aspects of identity, such as sexual orientation, gender, cultural traditions, or race. His other areas of interest include men's mental health, the intersection of psychology and the law, and social justice issues. He is actively involved in organizations focused on increasing the knowledge of the benefits of psychological services at the state and national level. Dr. Bailey also conducts trainings for professionals and has published peer reviewed articles and book chapters.

Education and Experience

Dr. Bailey has worked with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including those involved in lawsuits, survivors of traumatic events, LGBTQ individuals, and people experiencing difficulties with life transitions. He obtained his Bachelor's Degree (BS) in Psychology from the University of Washington. Dr. Bailey then earned a Master of Arts (MA) degree and Doctorate of Clinical Psychology (PsyD) through the Washington School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. He completed his Predoctoral Internship at the Fremont Community Therapy Project and Ryther Child Center. These sites provided experience in conducting therapy and assessment services for adults, adolescents, and children, as well as opportunities to supervise other graduate students. Finally, Dr. Bailey was board certified in clinical psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology in 2019.

Professional Activities

Dr. Bailey completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Fremont Community Therapy Project, where he serves as a supervisor for the Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills groups. He is also a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the International Society for Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISST-D), and the Washington State Psychological Association (WSPA). He is also a member of the following APA divisions: 41 and 56.

Dr. Bailey has been involved in several aspects of APA's Division 56, which focuses on increasing the awareness of how trauma can impact an individual's life. His responsibilities include serving as a representative on the Assessment of Trauma Sequelae Task Force, the Early Career Psychologist Publications Chair for the division's newsletter, website editor, and past president. He served as the Graduate Student Representative to the WSPA Executive Board from 2009-2011, and moved into a new position as a co-chair of the Early Career Psychologist Committee.
